About Us

About Us

AFHR is a Human Rights Advocacy group that has existed since August 2019 and is working towards creating a just environment for social, cultural, economic rights using regenerative support system that promotes and protects Human Rights and the environment

The founders of AFHR strongly believe that there is a disconnection between the Justice System (the policy makers and practitioners) and access to Social-economic and cultural rights. While ‘evidence-based policy making’ is a common phrase thrown around, there is an ever-widening chasm in-between research, policymaking, and practice. Our mission is to envision a just and equitable society.

At AFHR we believe in the principles and ideals of rigorous advocacy, awareness and networking through research, sensitizations, trainings, skills development. Our mission implores us to ‘empower the people so as to promote, reinforce and safeguard Social economic-cultural rights and good governance in the country’ for better livelihood and economic development of Masses using the bottom-up approach while fine-tuning the quality of governance, strategic planning, policy and programme management, process reform, and bridging the gap between policy makers and policy users

Broad Objective

For AFHR to be able to forge its way in the realisation of its mission, it has a broad objective of creating legal and human rights awareness and empowerment among the general public and, in particular, the underprivileged sections of the society through legal and civic education, advocacy, research, follow up of human rights abuses and provision of legal aid.

There is an increase of human rights violations accompanied by a number of social-economic inferiorities that encroach on the human rights of individuals and pose a threat to their wellbeing/welfare. Currently AFHR has enough working space, well furnished with working equipment and facilities to be sustainable in its work due to a good working environment, tools.

Identity & Values

AFHR state and nurture its values strongly; they include integrity, transparency being true to our authentic selves.  Its work is defined by quality and innovativeness. This is not achieved merely by skills but by internal organizational processes and insisting on internal integrity. AFHR ensures equality by striving for women’s, children’s and other marginalized groups’ rights. AFHR remains a thinking organization that works with people very well knowing they are the fire, AFHR is only the stokers of the fire.

These values and stance enable the AFHR to engage authentically, assertively and courageously with both government and partners of every like. They enable a vigorous and creative engagement with the AFHR’s constituency in order to educate, influence, challenge and share; and enable them to be assertive of their rights

Target Group (s)

By its nature, AFHR programs and services are wider in scope to benefit the general public including the right holders, duty bearers, vulnerable groups, victims of human rights violation, lawmakers, civil society organizations and the general public. Through direct program interventions such as paralegal training, Community Based Protection Mechanisms Training and Human Rights monitors, AFHR has a good link with communities at the grassroots level which ensures that its work has an impact at the national level and community level.

AFHR’s Key Stakeholders

Apart from directing its efforts to the general public, AFHR collaborates with a diverse number of stakeholders who serve as boundary partners in trying to accomplish its mission and programs in UGANDA. These include Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies and other Non Government Development Partners.
